Becoming Neighbors Congregations

Recognizing our long history of working closely with diverse faith communities around the shared values of loving our neighbors, welcoming the stranger, and treating others the way we want to be treated we've launched a new Becoming Neighbors Congregations initiative.  While we don't promote any particular faith tradition, we believe something special happens when diverse faith communities discover these shared values and put them into action together.

Becoming Neighbors Congregations expands upon our community gatherings and builds transformative relationships between congregations of different beliefs, cultures, and races. These year-long, intentional partnerships follow four steps - meaningful conversation, fun exchange, faith at work, and telling the story.

We provide a small toolkit, seed grants, and connections to other participating Becoming Neighbors congregations across the country. We will also help tell the story of how your unique partnership expanded neighborliness, and created some good in your local community at a time when it's really needed.

We are currently working with several unique congregational pairs in Illinois, while recruiting Becoming Neighbors congregations for 2026 in other parts of the nation - please contact Executive Director David Fraccaro if you are interested in learning more!

We also encourage you to attend one of our upcoming Becoming Neighbors network zoom gatherings to learn more about how you can bring Becoming Neighbors programs to your community or congregation.

We are living in a time of fear, hate, division and intolerance. For two different congregations, with people from different walks of life, to become neighbors and experience and exhibit love with one another and then share that love with the larger community (through service and advocacy) – that is a big part of the answer to all the craziness. Faith communities mobilizing together in solidarity like this is key to promoting love instead of hate, courage instead of fear, and unity and diversity instead of division and intolerance.
