Mission & History

our mission

Our mission is to foster meaningful conversations and relationships that create purpose in life, belonging in community, and wellbeing in the workplace.

our vision

Our vision is to inspire Lumunos program participants to work across lines of difference to create meaningful change in their own lives and communities.

our history

Lumunos was founded 100 years ago by Sam Shoemaker, an Episcopal priest who was instrumental in the creation of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Initially named Faith at Work, our focus has always been on fostering authentic and meaningful conversations and relationships that transform lives and communities. Throughout the decades since, Faith at Work/Lumunos has inspired numerous innovative publications, small group gatherings, leadership trainings, and community building initiatives that continue to impact people across the nation.

While Lumunos does not promote any particular faith tradition, we recognize the tremendous potential of diverse people putting their sacred values to work in the world for the common good of all.
